From high school, I’ve been passionate about economics and teaching. My journey began when my then-economics teacher asked to me help incoming students with IGCSE, and A-level economics. This led me believe that classes should be engaging, interactive, and use a wide range of examples.
As a former introverted student, I utilize Peardeck in my lectures to foster greater interaction. This Google Slide extension lets students voice their thoughts, and answer questions, who may otherwise be uncomfortable speaking up. I constantly encourage students to question, and voice their comments so I may adjust lectures as needed; ensuring my students have the opportunity to maximize their learning potential.
Using Peardeck also helps me learn student's general interest, and relevant news to them, so that I may tailor my lectures. This keeps me updated on any material or news that students consider culturally significant; helping to keep my lectures contemporary and personalized.
My goal during lectures is to spark interest in economics for the marginally disinterested, and on-the-fence students so they may see the benefits, costs, and critical thinking involved that makes economics wonderful. For this reason, I love teaching principles economics courses.
I would also whole-heartedly welcome the opportunity to teach econometrics for the challenge of turning such abstract and complicated topics into one that is fascinating and compelling. Additionally, I would love to design an undergraduate research course utilizing QGIS, and applying econometric techniques. I think it would be immensely beneficial for students to experience how economics can be applied so flexibly around the world; especially at the city level compared to individuals, firms, and countries as we frequently focus on in economics.

"Bryan Khoo was very helpful anytime I ever had a question, and it helped me understand the homework very easily. The slides also followed the homework and exams very closely, making it easy to study. The study guides were also helpful, although I found the slides better to study from because it provided longer explanations. The lectures were for the most part interesting and his explanations were easy to understand."
